Compared to Apple’s iMessage, third-party Messenger “WhatsApp” has a unique advantage, that is you can install WhatsApp on almost all popular cross-platform, such as iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Symbian and BlackBerry. And you can send messages in variety of different devices for free. This app relys on push notifications, to send instant messages to each other, multiple formats support, text, images, video and audio.
But the only drawback is WhatsApp only works in the mobile phones by default, meaning that it does not work if you install it on the iPad, iPod touch and other handheld devices no voice call supported.
But if your iPad is jailbroken, then you can activate WhatsApp by installing a jailbreak tweak called “WhatsApp for iPad” on the device. But if no jailbreak support, then whether there is an approach to successfully install WhatsApp on iPad and iPod touch? Yes you can activate the Messenger successfully by modifying some system files, but it’s only if you have purchased and activated WhatsApp on the iPhone.If not, you can make use of your friend’s iPhone. Then patiently operation according to the following steps.
How to Install WhatsApp on iPad and iPod touch
Step 1: Download and install iFun-box for Mac or Windows, which is a well-known file manager for iOS.
Step 2: Search and download Whatsapp.ipa file with iTunes on your computer.
Step 3: Navigate to iTunes Media folder on your computer in the following path:
- Mac OS X 10.7 Lion: ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
- Mac OS X 10.6: ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/
- Windows: C:/Users/Username/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
Find the file named WhatsApp from the above folder and copy it on Desktop.
Step 4: Connect your device to computer, launch iFunbox, click on ‘iFunBox Classic’ you will find the device is listed there, then select ‘Install App’. Now select the WhatsApp file you just copied on desktop.
Step 5: Once iFunBox shows success message disconnect your device. You have successfully installed WhatsApp. Don’t open the application until you finish the activation process posted below.
Activate WhatsApp
This process only requires you to copy two folders from the activated iPhone to the iPad.
Step 1: Connect the iPhone to your computer and open iFunBox. Select ‘iFunBox Classic’ and on left side click on ‘User Applications’ under the iPhone. From the list of applications select WhatsApp. Once you see all the files under WhatsApp, select both ‘Documents’ and ‘Library’ folder. Now click on ‘Copy To PC’ and save these selected folders on Desktop.
Step 2: Disconnect the iPhone and connect your iPod/iPad. Navigate to the same WhatsApp directory as the first step mentioned, then paste ‘Documents’ and ‘Library’ folder you just copied into the iPad WhatsApp folder as shown below.
Step 3: Disconnect your iPod/iPad. Open the WhatsApp on iPad to complete activation.
