How to access and use WhatsApp on your computer’s browser ?

If you’re using WhatsApp on your Android phone, you can now send and receive WhatsApp messages right from your computer’s Chrome browser using the Facebook-owned chat app latest feature WhatsApp Web.

i. To use WhatsApp on your computer’s browser

According to WhatsApp, the web client is simply an extension of your phone; the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile devices which means all of your messages are still live on your phone. Your phone needs to stay connected to the Internet for your web client to work.

  1. In your computer’s Chrome browser, go to web.whatsapp.com. Note: At the moment, WhatsApp web only works in Google Chrome.

  2. On your Android phone, make sure you’ve the latest version of WhatsApp.
  3. In WhatsApp, tap the Menu button  > WhatsApp web to launch the QR code reader.

  4. Use the QR code reader to scan the QR code at web.whatsapp.com. The web client of your WhatsApp will appear on the browser automatically.

ii. To enable WhatsApp desktop notification

By default, the web client alerts you by sound for new messages. You can also enable the desktop alert which displays pop-ups whenever a new message arrives.

  1. To activate the desktop alert feature, click the Turn on desktop notification link in the upper left corner on the web client.

  2. On the Allow https://web.whatsapp.com to show desktop notifications prompt, tap Allow.
  3. Once activated, you can easily mute/unmute the notifications by going to Menu > Notifications

iii. To logout from the WhatsApp web client

  1. On the web client, click the Menu button  > Log out

Or

  1. On your Android device, go to WhatsApp > the Menu button  > WhatsApp web
  2. Tap Log out from all computers.

iv. To start a new chat from the WhatsApp web client

  1. On the web client, click .
  2. Select the contact you want to chat with.

or

  1. On the web client, enter the contact you want to chat with in the search box.
  2. Click the contact in the search result to start a new chat.

v. To send photos and video from the WhatsApp web client

  1. Tap  in the upper right corner of a chat window.
  2. Click either to select the videos and photos you want to send from your computer or  to take a photo using your computer’s camera.

vi. To send a voice message from the WhatsApp web client

  1. On the web client, click  in the lower right corner of a chat window and then start speaking.
  2. Click  to delete the voice message or tap  to send the voice message.

vii. To download a photo or video to your computer

  1. Click the photo or video you want to download in a chat window.
  2. Tap  to download to your computer.

viii. To use multiple WhatsApp web clients

You can have multiple WhatsApp web clients on different computers, but only one active at a time. After opening the first web client, you can follow the steps below to open another web client on another computer.

  1. On another computer, go to web.whatsapp.com using the Chrome browser.
  2. On your Android phone, go to WhatsApp > Menu > WhatsApp web > + to get to the QR code reader.

  3. Use the QR Code reader on your phone to scan the QR code on the Chrome browser.
  4. Now, the new web client will be the active client.
  5. To make the previous web client active, tap Use Here on the pop-up you see on that browser.

ix. To access WhatsApp web client on your Android tablet

  1. On your Android tablet, open the Chrome browser.
  2. Tap the Menu button , and then check Request desktop site.
  3. After that, you can go to web.whatsapp.com.
  4. On your Android phone, make sure you’ve the latest version of WhatsApp.
  5. Open the WhatsApp app, tap the Menu button > WhatsApp web to launch the QR code reader.
  6. Use the QR code reader to scan the QR code at web.whatsapp.com. The web client of your WhatsApp will appear on your tablet’s browser automatically.
