If your website visitor goes to your website and is ready to give you a call via their smartphone but doesn’t have a paper or pen handy they might find it inconvenient and stop what they are doing, forget to go back to your website or just move on to your competitor. I myself have gone to a site, tried to click and call, couldn’t and then forgot to go back to that site at a later time to write down the number and call.
To prevent this from happening and making it easy for a website visitor to call you right then and there, I have two solutions:
HTML Code
In the WordPress text editor, create a click to call link by entering this code:
<a href=”tel:1111234567″>Call us!</a>
Replace the numbers with your telephone number. When you click back to the visual editor, your phone number will look like this.

WordPress Plugin
Telephone Number Linker is a free WordPress plugin that creates a click to call link for mobile devices but retains the text appearance on desktop.
I have installed this plugin on a few client websites and the plugin works great even with recent WordPress updates. Once you install and activate the plugin, you will need to go to the location you want to place the phone number and add the plugin shortcode. The shortcode can be added on both the visual or text editor in WordPress.

Note: depending on the WordPress theme you are using, your theme may support mobile click-to-call for all phone numbers throughout your website. If this is true for you, you will not need to install the above plugin or use the html code.
