After entering phone number, user receives a 5 digit confirmation code via
- another Telegram app (if he’s using Telegram on another device),
- a text message (SMS) or
- after 2 minutes: a computer voice call (in English)
SMS not received? Check if the number is written in the international number format (+112312345) and check if maybe an App (or even the mobile network operator) is blocking SMS from foreign countries. Remember that Telegram does not support VoIP numbers nor new landline numbers, so a real mobile number is required.
When you insert your code to login, you will be asked to enable push notifications. If you refuse this option, you won’t be able to get any knd of notification while the app is closed. The only way to change this option is a new installation of the app.
Chat Conversation
Contact Profile
Tapping on the display name in a chat opens the contact profile settings.Tapping on the “…” shows up a little menu: Block and Delete. Share and Edit have their dedicate buttons at the very bottom. Edit only appears if one has already saved the contact.
Contact Profile – Notifications and Sounds
Notifications and sounds menu will allow you to mute notification for a certain time.
Sound menu will allow you to dedice which in-app sound use. (Only in chat sound, notification sound when the app is closed has to be set in the system settings).
Contact Profile – Shared media
Shared files page allows you to search among files using the research button on the bottom, and to manage multiple files, using the “manage” icon.
Replying / Quoting
Long press on a message, then “Reply”.
Secret Chats
Setting up self-destruction timer
Go into the info page of a secret chat, tapping on the profile image. Then select the timer.

Press on “Invite Friends” in the contact page, then select how to invite new people
Changing display name / deleting profile image
In the main Settings page, press on the Pencil icon on the bottom.
Changing the phone number
You can change your number in Telegram and keep everything, including all your contacts, messages and media from the Telegram cloud, as well as all your Secret Chats on all devices. Your mutual contacts (people in your contacts, who also have your number) will get your new number added to your contact in their address book unless you have blocked them in Telegram. This makes changing numbers even easier. To change your number, go to Settings, then tap on your phone number (just above the username), then Change Number’. If you already have a different Telegram account on the target number, you’ll need to delete that account first.
