What is the error: When you are trying to start Skype, during startup, you may get this error message “Skype has stopped working” “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
Solution:
This problem is caused due to the shared.xml file that is location in your user profile. C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Skype

Please note that USERNAME is actually your profile name in windows. you should replace “USERNAME” with your windows login or profile name on the computer where you are experiencing this problem. In the above figure, the user name is IT. This also applies to Windows 7.
How to go to the Skype folder.
Method 1:

Click on start and choose run. You can also reach run prompt by clicking both Windows Key and R Key.

Copy and Paste this C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Skype into the run prompt and hit enter or choose ok. Do not forget to replace “USERNAME” with your user name or profile name.

- Delete “shared.xml” file

Restart Skype. The shared.xml file will be recreated.
