Many of us use Skype, which is a popular VOIP software for free PC-to-PC voice and video calls across the world. Most of the first time users, or people who just bought a new desktop computer or a laptop feel annoyed with the Skype audio problems. Its not a problem with Skype most of the times. The problem lies in the fact that most of the computers we use these days have multiple microphones and speaker ports. For example, my laptop has a built in microphone and a mic port to connect external headphone mic. At a time, only one of these microphones will be used and other will not be used.
In this post, I will share a very easy and quick way of solving this problem, trust me, it won’t take more than 2 minutes to fix the mic problem following this tutorial.
Just follow these two simple steps to solve the mic problem. Before following these steps, if you have an external mic, or headphone mic, please ensure that it is correctly connected in correct port. Refer to your computer’s manual for any help.
Step 1 : Login to Skype with your user id and password. Click on Tools > Options.
Step 2 : On the Options screen, click on the Audio Settings panel on the left. Click on the small drop-down arrow in front of the Microphone settings on the right of the screen. Select another mics on this list if your mic is not working. Click on the save button on this Screen. As you speak, you will see the Volume bar on this screen moving. If its moving, it means you have selected the correct mic. Try all the microphones in this list if the one which is selected is not working.
This is it. You can also change the speaker settings if you are using headphones on some other port, or internal computer speakers etc. We hope you find this small tutorial easy to follow.
