10 Alternative Instant Messaging After Meebo was Closed

I don’t know whether “closed” is the correct word or not to mention Meebo after it was acquired by Google. The clear is, after it was acquired by Google with USD 100 million value, this instant messaging service had been non-activated since previous July 11th 2012.

The news said, Meebo team now is connected with Google+ team to integrated their features in the social network. Hundred millions of Meebo user surely “neglected” by this acquisition. If you’re one of Meebo user, don’t be sad. There are ten alternative instant messaging services with similar benefits and you can use them for free. Pidgin is an open source chat client which is quite popular. No wonder because Pidgin supports almost all IM service existed today, started from AIM, Google Talk, IRC, MySpaceIM, Sametime, Zephyr, Bonjour, Groupwise, MSN, SILC, XMPP, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, MXit, SIMPLE, also Yahoo Messenger.

qutIM display is so simple. In default, this software only supported ICQ, Jabber, IRC, Mail.ru Agent, and VKontakte saja. But if you add quetzal plugin, so qutIM will also support AIM, MySpaceIM, Sametime, Zephyr, Bonjour, Groupwise, MSN, SILC, Gadu-Gadu, MXit, SIMPE and Yahoo Messenger. It will be complete, won’t it?

10. Spicebird (Windows, Linux)


Actually Spicebird is not specified itself as chat client. However, there’s one of its feature combined some instant messenger into one. Instant messengers supported are Gtalk, Jabber, Yahoo Messenger, MSN and ICQ. Other feature of this Spicebird are Calendar and Email client.
